Driving Dreams Forward: In Flight Secures $10,000 Match Grant from A. Lindsay & Olive B. O’Connor Foundation for Innovative Driving Simulators

At In Flight, Inc., our commitment to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) is unwavering. Today, we extend our deepest gratitude to the A. Lindsay & Olive B. O’Connor Foundation for their generous donation of $10,000. This transformative gift is a beacon of hope, propelling us further in our mission to provide meaningful support and opportunities for those with I/DD to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

A Glimpse into the Challenges Faced

Individuals with I/DD face numerous barriers, from unpredictable funding and limited budgets to a shortage of programs for adults. After the age of 21, many are uncertain about their future, especially when their caregivers can no longer provide support. The additional costs of having a disability, coupled with high unemployment rates and low wages, create substantial challenges in achieving financial stability and independence.

In Flight’s Innovative Approach: I-SAIL Academy

In response to these challenges, In Flight introduced the In Flight Success Academy for Independent Living (I-SAIL). This unique program focuses on addressing barriers to living independently and obtaining financial sustainability for young adults in their 20s and 30s with I/DD. The curriculum covers a wide range of skills, including hygiene, communication, community integration, and financial management, preparing individuals for successful independent living.

Expressing Gratitude for the A. Lindsay & Olive B. O’Connor Foundation’s Support

The recent $10,000 donation from the A. Lindsay & Olive B. O’Connor Foundation is a pivotal moment in our journey. This generous contribution allows us to further enhance our programs and tackle crucial barriers faced by individuals with I/DD. Specifically, the foundation’s support brings us one step closer to integrating cutting-edge driving simulators into our I-SAIL programs, addressing the significant barrier of transportation for work.
