We're excited to announce In Flight's 20th Annual Holiday Formal, taking place on December 13th at The Grandview in Poughkeepsie from 12:30pm to 4pm.

What to Expect This Year

Celebrate the season with us at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie for our 20th Annual Holiday Formal. Guests will enjoy an afternoon filled with delicious food, lively DJ music, and plenty of dancing. This event welcomes individuals with developmental disabilities, along with their staff and caregivers, for a meaningful community gathering. We accommodate modified diets, ensuring everyone can enjoy the meal.

Ticket and Meal Information

Tickets are $60 per person, cash or check payable to In Flight and are due by Friday, November 6th at 3pm.

No payments will be accepted without a confirmed reservation through email or voicemail. This event sells out fast! The reservation holds your spot.

All guests will be required to preselect their meal and dessert, on a form, at the time of payment. This will not be able to be changed the day of the event.

The Story Behind Holiday Formal

Jennifer Wells, Vice President of Community Programs for In Flight, Inc., created the Annual Holiday Formal as a positive opportunity to offer the community of local people with disabilities, their family, and their staff/provider agencies a chance to come together and celebrate in an inclusive and accessible space. People with disabilities often cannot attend large events similar to the Holiday Formal due to various barriers such as accessibility, transportation, staffing, and many more.

In 2005, Jennifer Wells decided to combat the inaccessibility for people with disabilities by creating The Holiday Formal. She was inspired by New York State's holiday dance in Fishkill, NY, and decided to host her own party after the State could not continue theirs. Starting as a small dance for 40 people in a local restaurant, Wells grew this event while expanding her professional repertoire and bringing it to other agencies in the area, with the aim of reaching as many people with disabilities in the Hudson Valley as possible. In fact, 500 people attended the Holiday Formal in 2023. In 2018, Jennifer Wells began working at In Flight, Inc. and brought the Holiday Formal with her.
