The Academy In Flight Success Academy for Independent Living

I-SAIL or In Flight's Success Academy for Independent Living is In Flight's unique sequence of training programs designed for young adults in their 20s and 30s with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is geared towards those who have aged out of school and are ready to transition to independent living.

The Academy provides an additional support layer to skills learned in residential as well as within its subset programs Pre-Vocation (Pre-Voc) and Supported Employment (SEMP), with an additional focus on job retention.

According to the Department of Applied Behavioral Sciences, the top barriers of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities striving to live independently are personal safety (94.7%) and lack of household skills (94.7%).

The Academy's curriculum addresses these barriers to living independently as well as financial sustainability by inserting additional supports, such as:

  • Personal Hygiene
  • Housekeeping
  • Communication
  • Functional Academics
  • Community Integration
  • Health
  • Laundry
  • Cooking
  • Bill Paying
  • Grocery Shopping
  • Travel Training
  • Personal Safety
  • Socialization
  • Sexuality/Relationships
  • Advocate Training

Our I-SAIL Academy is one of a kind. We offer an additional support layer to skills learned within a residential program, at home, and within I-SAIL's other subset programs.
