Cornhole for a Cause Community Festival: From Tournament to Hudson Valley Tradition
The Cornhole for a Cause Community Festival has grown from a simple sports fundraiser into one of the Hudson Valley’s most exciting free community festivals. Hosted annually by In Flight, Inc., the event raises critical funds to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the Hudson Valley and Capital Region.
What began in 2021 as a replacement for In Flight’s annual golf tournament has evolved into a large-scale themed community experience filled with entertainment, food, vendors, games, and one of the region’s only community drone shows.
The Beginning of Cornhole for a Cause
In 2021, In Flight, Inc. launched the very first Cornhole for a Cause Community Festival as a new way to bring the community together while raising funds for programs supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The event originally focused on a day-long cornhole tournament featuring professional cornhole players, local vendors, live music, and side games. In its very first year, the fundraiser raised just over $10,000 for In Flight’s programs and services.
Although modest in size compared to today’s event, the foundation was created for what would become a major annual community tradition in the Hudson Valley.
Growing Into a Community Festival
Each year, Cornhole for a Cause continued to grow. Attendance increased, more vendors joined the event, and additional entertainment was introduced to create a more engaging experience for families and community members.
Three years ago, the festival reached another major milestone when Hudson Regional LTC Pharmacy became the event’s presenting sponsor. Their partnership helped expand the event and support larger entertainment experiences for the community.
As the festival evolved, organizers recognized that Cornhole for a Cause had become more than just a cornhole tournament. It had become a gathering place for the entire community.
Themed Entertainment Changed Everything
In 2025, In Flight introduced themed entertainment to the Cornhole for a Cause Community Festival for the first time.
The “Galaxy Wars” theme transformed the event experience with:
- Storm trooper appearances
- Live music
- Local vendors
- A themed photo booth
- Interactive games
- A community drone show
The addition of the drone show became a defining feature of the festival. As one of the only community drone shows in the Hudson Valley, it provided a unique and sensory-friendly alternative to traditional fireworks while creating a memorable experience for attendees of all ages and abilities.
The 2025 event raised $25,000 in support of In Flight’s mission and demonstrated how powerful a free, inclusive community festival could become.
Entering the Wizarding World in 2026
This year, the Cornhole for a Cause Community Festival enters a magical new chapter with its 2026 Wizarding World-inspired theme.
Attendees can expect:

- Live music and entertainment

- A magical photo experience
- Cornhole tournaments and side games

- Family-friendly activities for all ages
The event continues to expand while remaining true to its mission of inclusion, accessibility, and community connection.
Supporting Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
While the festival has grown significantly, its purpose remains unchanged.
Proceeds from the Cornhole for a Cause Community Festival directly support In Flight’s programs and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the Hudson Valley and Capital Region. Funding helps provide residential services, vocational training, community programs, and opportunities for greater independence and inclusion.
Looking Toward the Future
What started as a small cornhole fundraiser has become a free community festival that brings together families, businesses, sponsors, volunteers, and local organizations for a shared purpose.
