May is going to be busy for In Flight! As the weather gets warmer, our folks have more opportunities to enjoy community outings together. Additionally, the warmer weather means more events we can create for our community.

Meeting Senator John W. Mannion

Last month, our CEO Matthew G. Bateman, CFO Nevena Ilcheva, and Director of Development, Jill Rodriguez, had the honor of meeting Senator John W. Mannion. Senator Mannion proudly serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Disabilities. In this role, he has established a strong legislative record advocating for the state’s most vulnerable citizens. Senator Mannion has successfully secured the first cost-of-living increase for DSPs, expanded the preferred source program to enhance employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, mandated a report by OPWDD on the agency’s pandemic response, and continues to work towards solutions addressing critical workforce and housing shortages.

It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to meet him alongside our friend Angelo Angerame as well as other agencies and community members, discussing the important issues he is currently championing and amplifying the voices of families and individuals with disabilities.

Open House and Pop-Up Shop!

All are welcome to our Open House and Pop-Up Shop at our Red Hook I-SAIL location on May 7th from 11am to 2pm.

You’ll have the chance to engage with our staff and participants, gaining insights into the personalized steps taken to enrich independent living skills and financial sustainability for adults with I/DD. Learn firsthand about the impact of our initiatives on the lives of those we serve and witness the curriculum we have created to addresses the barriers to living independently.

Our Pop-Up Shop will showcase some of the skills The Academy works on with our individuals. Not only will there be a delightful array of handmade candles, but a delicious bake sale all made by our talented participants. Every purchase directly supports our participants and helps fund our ongoing programs.

SRO Plus to perform Finding Nemo Jr.

Join us Monday May 13th to watch our very own SRO PLUS theater program perform their first full production. Doors open at 5:30pm with seating at 6:00pm at the Cunneen-Hackett Theater in Poughkeepsie. Tickets are $10 (cash only) and seating is first come, first served.

In Flight’s transformative programs actively bridge communities across the Hudson Valley, connecting individuals of all abilities through shared experiences and meaningful interactions. At In Flight, we believe in the power of inclusivity, cultivating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive and contribute.

This Hudson Valley Gives day, May 15th, with your generous support, we can continue to make significant strides towards achieving this mission and enhancing the lives of those we serve.This year, as part of the 2024 Hudson Valley Gives campaign, we are aiming to raise $7,000 to advance our mission and achieve our funding goals. Furthermore, your support will directly contribute to several key initiatives that will positively impact the lives of our participants.

Outstanding Team Member of the Month!

Karey Jornov – RN

As an RN, Karey always ensures that the medical needs of her houses are taken care of. We had a recent situation where a person was hospitalized, Karey was consistently on top of their medical care and checking in with the hospital. Throughout the discharge process, Karey was dedicated to ensuring that all the supports that were needed were set up, and the staff were trained and ready to provide medical support as necessary. Karey is an exceptional addition to the nursing department and is always a pleasure to work with. Thank you, Karey, for your exceptional nursing!

Congratulations to our incredible Special Olympics basketball team, the Ulster Tigers on placing first in their latest game!
