Ulster Tigers Special Olympics Basketball Team – 2025 Season Recap
From Silver Victory to a Championship Showdown
The Ulster Tigers are a Special Olympics basketball team based in Ulster County, New York. This dynamic team is made up of talented athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Proudly coached by In Flight staff members alongside a person we support, the team is a shining example of inclusion, teamwork, and community spirit.
A Strong Start at Marist College
The energy was electric on Sunday, March 28th, 2025 at Marist College as our Ulster Tigers Basketball Team took to the court for their first official game of the season in the Regional Basketball Competition—and what a day it was!
Opening strong, the Tigers scored seven baskets against the Stars, securing a place in Division 1. They went on to play two more games, including a thrilling match up against the Thunder Bolts, where they clinched a 38–27 victory.
Their final game of the day was against the Northeast Knights, and it was nothing short of exceptional. Nearly every player on the team contributed to the scoreboard, showcasing the heart, hustle, and teamwork that defines this incredible group. By the end of the tournament, the Tigers had climbed from their previous year’s Bronze standing to Silver. This astonishing accomplishment truly reflects their dedication and growth.
From all of us at In Flight: we couldn’t be prouder of how you represented In Flight and your community.
All Eyes on the Championship at SUNY New Paltz
On Sunday, April 6th, 2025, the Tigers returned to the court at SUNY New Paltz for the Unified Championship Tournament—and they came ready to defend their title.
Facing off against the Northeast Knights in their first game of the day, the Tigers gave it their all in a high-energy match that earned them a spot in Division 1 once again. The second game was against the Anderson Knights, who played a tough and focused game. But the Tigers stayed strong and kept their eyes on the prize.
It all came down to the final match, once again against the Northeast Knights. The stakes were higher than ever. The game was a nail-biter, pushing into triple overtime. The Tigers pulled off a one-point win to successfully defend their Unified Championship Title.
Leadership That Inspires
None of this would have been possible without the incredible guidance of our dedicated coaching team. A huge thank you to Ashley Johnson, Adam Williams, and Jamell for your unwavering support, encouragement, and belief in our athletes. Your leadership has helped shape this team into the champions they are today.
Honoring the Champions

Adding to the excitement, the team was recently honored by Saugerties Mayor Bill Murphy, who presented them with a stunning championship banner honoring their 2024 Unified Championship win. Now proudly hanging in the Saugerties High School Gym, it is a powerful symbol of their hard work, resilience, and the community that stands behind them.
A Season to Remember
We are beyond proud of our Ulster Tigers. Not just for their athletic achievements but for their sportsmanship and teamwork they brought to every game this season.
Congratulations, Tigers!
