Jill Scutt – Highlight and Spotlight

At In Flight, our dedicated staff members are the heart of our mission to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This month, we’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on Jill Scutt, a passionate and hardworking Medical Transporter and Direct Support Professional (DSP) who goes above and beyond to support those in our programs.

Finding a Home at In Flight

Jill’s journey with In Flight is a special one – she made the decision to return after experiencing other agencies in the field. For her, In Flight has always felt like home. “I’m grateful In Flight has welcomed me back as if I have never left,” she shares. Her dedication and passion for the individuals we support are evident in everything she does.

A Multi-Faceted Role

Jill’s role as a Med Transporter and DSP is dynamic, filled with a variety of responsibilities that make each day unique. Whether she is accompanying individuals to their medical appointments, ensuring they have the support they need to advocate for their care, or taking them out for activities like shopping and birthday parties. Jill is always on the move. You’ll also find her playing an integral part in programs like In Flight’s SRO Theater Program, where she helps transport individuals to rehearsals and performances.

A Day In Jill Scutt’s Shoes

A typical day for Jill starts with checking in with the houses and nurses before heading off to appointments. She ensures that each individual she supports has everything they need and helps them advocate for their healthcare. After their appointments, she drops them off at their programs, jobs, or homes, before completing her paperwork. On Mondays, she brings a group to the theater program, and throughout the week, she remains ready to assist wherever she is needed. No two days are ever the same, and that’s exactly how Jill likes it!

A Lifelong Calling

Jill’s passion for this field started at an early age. Her father worked in the same industry, and she fondly remembers visiting the residential program where he worked. “The guys at his program were the coolest people I ever met,” she recalls. Additionally, growing up with a learning disability herself gave Jill a deeper understanding of the importance of support and empowerment, driving her to make a difference in the lives of others.

Creativity in Action

One of Jill’s favorite aspects of her job is the opportunity to bring her creative ideas to life. She loves finding new ways to engage the individuals in In Flight’s programs, from planning fun outings to launching exciting initiatives like ‘In Flight’s Got Talent.’ Seeing the joy these experiences bring to the people she supports makes her work incredibly fulfilling.

Looking Toward the Future

Jill credits In Flight for helping her grow professionally, stating, “In Flight has helped me become more confident about myself. I like that my opinion does matter and not always shut down.” While she currently thrives in her role, her long-term goal is to become a house manager. With her dedication and drive, we have no doubt she’ll achieve that goal!
