Hudson Valley Fall Adventures with In Flight – Opportunities For All Abilities
Autumn in the Hudson Valley is a time for vibrant colors, crisp air, and classic seasonal outings. This year, our programs have been exploring the best this season has to offer. Thanks to local, accessible venues, our participants have enjoyed various Hudson Valley fall adventures, from apple picking and pumpkin patch visits to navigating corn mazes. These inclusive experiences have helped build skills, foster friendships, and create lasting memories for individuals of all abilities.
Apple Picking with Church Ave and Catskill Day Hab Programs
Our Church Ave Residential Program embraced the season with a day of apple picking, savoring the fun and beauty of the Hudson Valley. Participants had a fantastic time selecting apples, learning about different varieties, and filling their bags with the juiciest picks. Meanwhile, our Catskill Day Habilitation Program visited the beautiful Greig Farms for their own apple-picking adventure. Our individuals honed in their teamwork and decision-making skills as they navigated the rows of apple trees together.
The inclusive orchards here in the Hudson Valley region have made all the difference. By providing accessible paths and a warm welcome for individuals of all abilities, they are ensuring everyone can join in.
Pumpkin Picking with Ghent and Catskill Day Hab Programs
Pumpkin picking is a cherished autumn tradition, and this year, our Ghent Day Habilitation Program visited Samascott Orchard to choose the perfect pumpkins for decorating. Each participant selected a pumpkin that matched their unique style, sparking creativity and fun. Additionally, our Catskill Day Habilitation Program also enjoyed a day of pumpkin picking. Bringing back numerous pumpkins for them to transform into spooky masterpieces through painting and decorating.
Corn Maze Fun with Catskill and Red Hook I-SAIL Programs
A special highlight was a joint trip to Samascott Orchard, where both I-SAIL programs came together to tackle a cornmaze. This year, Samascott designed their cornmaze to be a strawberry plant! The maze offered the perfect opportunity for participants to work as a team, practice problem-solving, and build confidence as they navigated their way through winding paths. On average, the Samascott cornmaze takes 60 to 90 minutes to complete!
These inclusive Hudson Valley experiences are a testament to the power of community spaces that welcome all individuals. The support from local venues, with accessible pathways and friendly staff, created a memorable experience where everyone could fully participate.
