Carrie Williams – Staff Spotlight and Highlight
At In Flight, Inc., our dedicated staff members are the backbone of our mission to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to live fulfilling, independent lives. This month, we’re excited to highlight Carrie Williams, our Community Services Coordinator, whose dedication and expertise play a vital role in supporting our community programs.
Why Did Carrie Join In Flight?
Carrie joined In Flight after spending eight years as an Extended Services Provider at another agency. Following the birth of her youngest child, she sought a position closer to home. Because of a friend who worked with us, she was drawn to In Flight. Her decision brought her extensive experience and a genuine passion for empowering individuals to our team.
What Does Carrie Do at In Flight?
As the Community Services Coordinator, Carrie manages the ins and outs of In Flight’s Community Programs, which include Community Habilitation (Com Hab), Community Habilitation-R (Com Hab R), Respite, SEMP, Pre-Voc, and ISAIL. Her responsibilities span a wide range of tasks, including:
- Tracking and updating program paperwork.
- Coordinating with Care Managers.
- Reviewing Therap notes and time cards.
- Scheduling interviews and co-chairing the Admissions Committee.
- Overseeing the referral and admissions process.
Additionally, Carrie plays an integral role in organizing events like the annual Holiday Formal, ensuring all RSVPs and event details are in place.
A Day in Carrie’s Role
Carrie’s days are dynamic and filled with activity. She balances administrative responsibilities, such as managing emails, updating paperwork, and reviewing time cards, with strategic coordination for program admissions and community needs. Her attention to detail ensures that all community services run smoothly and that staff and individuals supported by In Flight receive the resources they need.
Carrie’s Path into the Field
After moving back to New York from college in South Carolina, Carrie sought a career that aligned with her desire to make an impact. She began working at Abilities First, where she supported individuals through the SEMP program. This experience laid the foundation for her current role at In Flight.
Her Favorite Part of the Job
For Carrie, the annual Holiday Formal stands out as a highlight. “Since I am in Admin at In Flight, I don’t get to see and interact with the individuals like I used to,” she states. “This is a real treat—to see them so happy and enjoying themselves at this event.”
Additionally, she finds great fulfillment in admitting new individuals into the program and witnessing how In Flight’s services add value, independence, and joy to their lives.
Growth Through In Flight
Carrie credits her professional growth to the encouragement and guidance of her supervisor. Her supervisor, Jennifer Wells, has helped her step out of her comfort zone and tackle new challenges with confidence. “I have a very knowledgeable, encouraging, and supportive supervisor, and I’m very thankful for that,” she shares.
A Grateful Heart
Carrie’s journey at In Flight is a testament to her dedication and commitment to making a difference. From administrative excellence to her heartfelt enthusiasm for seeing individuals thrive, Carrie embodies the spirit of In Flight’s mission.
Thank you, Carrie Williams, for your hard work and for empowering others to soar! Stay tuned for more staff spotlights as we continue to showcase the incredible people behind In Flight’s success.
