Sarah embodies the spirit of selflessness and dedication, consistently going above and beyond to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Her extensive volunteer work spans across various organizations, from her involvement with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts to her dedicated service within the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and Special Education PTA (SEPTA) in the Arlington District. Sarah’s altruism extends even further as she volunteers her time and resources to support causes close to her heart, including domestic violence prevention and assistance.

Additionally, one of Sarah’s remarkable qualities is her creativity and artistic talent, which she generously shares with the community. From crafting intricate costumes for local theater productions to lending a hand in set design and prop creation, Sarah’s artistic flair enriches our cultural landscape, bringing joy to audiences. Additionally, she has been a major part of our latest collaboration with Standing Room Only (SRO) to offer community theater opportunities to individuals with developmental disabilities. In summary, these participations and collaborations exemplify her innovative approach to inclusivity and accessibility in the arts.

Beyond her professional role, Sarah’s dedication to serving individuals with developmental disabilities shines brightly. Whether it’s coordinating events for the Special Olympics or providing support to families facing adversity, Sarah’s compassion knows no bounds. Furthermore, her leadership as a Girl Scout leader and mentor demonstrates her commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders and instilling values of empathy and service.

In her role as Community Habilitation Manager, Sarah’s impact is profound and far-reaching. Her exceptional ability to match staff with individuals based on their unique needs and personalities ensures that each person receives the support and care they deserve. Through her person-centered approach, Sarah fosters meaningful connections and enhances the quality of life for those we serve.

Jennifer Wells, Director of Community Services, has had the pleasure of knowing Sarah for over ten years. She shared, “I met Sarah ten years ago when we were employed for the same agency that serves people with developmental disabilities. After a short while, I was privileged enough to become Sarah’s supervisor and have been able to supervise her through several work roles and two agencies. In my experience, Sarah is extremely creative in her ideas for programming for people in our area with developmental disabilities.”

Sarah’s journey from a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to a managerial role is a testament to her natural leadership abilities and dedication to excellence. Her initiatives, such as facilitating cooking classes for individuals with developmental disabilities and spearheading inclusive theater programs, reflect her commitment to empowerment and inclusion.
