Why did you join In Flight?

I joined In Flight in 2019. I was on the audit team that reviewed the financials and really liked working with the finance team. Also, I was intrigued by what In Flight did for the people that we served and felt that it was a way of giving back to the community.

What do you do at In Flight?

I am the Chief Financial Officer and Director of Finance. I work closely with almost all departments to ensure fiscal stability.

Briefly describe a day at your position?

Every day is different and there isn’t one alike. My day is filled with looking through my emails, respond to department’s inquiries and/or outside vendors. I work on developing and managing the agency’s budget and ensure compliance with regulations, negotiate loans and line of credit, create financial statements. Further, I work closely with almost all departments as finance touches each one of them. I review and approve purchase requisitions.

How did you get into this field?

I am originally from Bulgaria and I graduated college with a Bachelor of Finance. My accounting professor told me that I probably should consider accounting because I was good in my class. Hence, when I came to United States and realized that with my current job, I will never be able to have a career, I decided to go back to school. I started at a community college and my advisor told me that I am for a four-year college and not a two year college. I met with the Dean of the Business Department in New Paltz and I applied and was accepted.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love the people that I work with and our individuals.

Has In Flight helped you towards your professional goals? How?

In Flight has helped me expand my professional knowledge and experience. I was working on the other side of the table, auditing businesses and the perspective that this job has given me is tremendous.
